We live nearby GDP. Unfortunately our dog is unsociable with other male dogs. So we rarely go. The park is fenced and typically there are a few dogs there throughout the day usually well behaved but dog fights can happen. The grass is typically worn from all the activity.spots can be dusty or muddy depending on the amount of rain. Usually see the same dogs and people frequenting the park

Mostly very nice. As in every dog park you will run into some irresponsible owners, the ones that don't clean up after their dogs or let their dog bully smaller ones. The water is turned off for the winter. I kind of wished they had some way to have it on throughout the day and cut off automatically at night.

The actual park looks very nice and spacious between two streets, but it was close! Website claims it is open, and there were many dogs walking around the park. Really bummed out since my girl and I drove 20 minutes to check out this park.

Wanted to try this park as it is long enough for my 70# dog to run but it was locked during the open hours (sign on gate said maintenance) with no reopening date or time

Great place for your pup(s) to stretch their legs and socialize. The park is clean and quiet and there are bags for waste as well as a watering station. It's beautiful and large and located in a great area.

Dog parks are not for small children or babies. Have some damn common sense people. There's no separate area for smaller breeds so this can be problematic when larger dogs get to running around and playing rough as dogs do. Someone brought their dog in who was limping and had a cone on its head- seriously?!? Defintely would choose the PETA park over this place.

A Neighborhood Gem with One Caveat Ghent Dog Park is a beloved urban oasis for Norfolk's canine residents and their owners. Nestled in the charming and historic Ghent neighborhood, this well-maintained park offers a fantastic space for dogs to socialize and burn off energy. The park is thoughtfully equipped with essential amenities, including readily available waste bags, numerous trash receptacles, and, during the warmer seasons, a convenient water fountain to keep the dogs hydrated. The sense of community among the regulars is a standout feature; fellow dog lovers are generally friendly, responsible, and welcoming, contributing to a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you and your furry friend can easily make new acquaintances. I highly recommended this spot for the pups.

Very nice park, I love that it is so close to the shops! I wish the park had better grass but there is enough to throw a picnic blanket. I love that they have the balls to play with pups and bags to pick up after them. The neighborhood is very nice and so fun to walk around. I highly recommend if you want to spend some time with your baby and meet other people/pets! 🐶😊

I use to bring my corgi here all the time but lately many owners are bringing their aggressive dogs that end up fighting at the park. A few times I’ve brought my dog and these people’s very large dogs are harassing and biting my dog to point where he’s crying. I can no longer take him and I don’t feel that’s fair. Keep your aggressive dogs that have no social training at home. This is how people’s dogs get killed or seriously hurt. I understand big dogs need a place to play too.. and many of the bigger dogs are great with each other! But occasionally someone brings a dog that hasnt been around many dogs and it makes everyone else’s experience dangerous. Keep them at home or socialize them more before unleashing them at this park.

Nice double gate design makes it easy to get in and out without any dogs escaping. There are tennis balls and chuck sticks on site. People usually clean up after their pups. Water spigot for fresh water and some big bowls. Lots of space for your pup to stretch their legs without a leash on.

They have water, "waste" bags in case you forget yours and plenty of room to roam. There is no separate section for smaller dogs which I know can be important for some dog owners.

There was a man with a rottweiler at the park today. The dog got into a fight on 2 occassions with different dogs which was alarming. The man was very defensive and didn't leave right away which is what I would have done. Other than that our pup made some new friends and had a great time!

The grass has grown back so thick and lush this year! You can tell they’ve been putting work into it.

This is a nice little dog park in the center of Ghent. It's a great location, the people are usually friendly. I used to bring my dog here all the time when I lived in Ghent. It was really nice being able to walk to it. It can get a little muddy after it rains and they will close it when this happens. If there has been a bunch of rain lately just be mindful it may be closed.

Ghent Dog park is a strategically placed dog park in the heart of Ghent. I've been many times, and it's vast openness and friendliness of patrons is what keeps me coming back. I love how it's situated in a quant neighborhood that makes it seem more like a home rather than a park.

Clean and large with a good security fence. All the dogs and owners I encountered were kind and courteous. There are free use balls and frisbees, bags to clean up after your dog, and water with bowls for your dog as well. I really enjoyed my experience and will be back soon.

Overall a pretty good dog park. There was plenty of room to run and play and best of all its FREE! They had a working water spigot with bowls and toys for the pups to play with. My puppy had fun socializing and getting some exercise for sure. Great small place to take your dogs if you're in the downtown Norfolk area

Great dog park in the area. Shaded and quiet. It can get pretty muddy after a storm so be sure to plan accordingly. Water and waste bags available. Great community feel. The park tends to have a lot of big dogs so small dog owners should know there is no designated area for their pet. Parking is on the street and tends to be available. Playground No playground. Restrooms No restrooms available. Dog-friendliness It’s a dog park, it’s dog friendly. Picnic area Benches available but no picnic area

A nice big park. I wouldn't suggest wearing anything you care about; this place is 75% dirt, so when it's dry, it's dusty and when it's raining, it's muddy. Either way, you and your pup will need a bath after you leave.
