I like this place for the many friendly people who come fish here. As a newcomer to Richmond it was a blessing to talk and communicate with the masters of these waters. I wished there was more access. There is a lot of mud and silt on the other end of water access restricting good casts. I am happy for whatever is provided too.

Great little park that has a lot of history to Richmond . Everyone in Richmond should visit it and see how old commerce was done. I enjoy it best in the winter when there isn’t many people roaming around.

Great scenery!!! Nice water spots. Very limited parking. But worth the trip. Portiepotta avail, such a life saver

Great place to visit....the trail is noisy due to traffic on Dock street....

Great little place that shows and tell some of the history of Richmond. Great location.

Great walking and biking trails right on the canal. A lot of it is pretty overgrown though, so it was hard to read a lot of the informative signs.

This is a really cool way to see some Richmond and transportation history up close. You can walk across a canal lock and even touch the controls, though they're obviously locked from being unintentionally used. I wish there were a bit more signage explaining the locks themselves, but I'll admit that I didn't have a chance to explore the whole park. It's possible there is more signage somewhere that I didn't see. I appreciate that there is as much parking as there is. We went on a weekday morning and had the place to ourselves in chilly weather, but it appears that there is ample parking, even in better weather and busier times.

A great place to hike and kill a day. Next to the water, lots of plants, spots for a picnic.

"Hidden" gem that is getting more popular. Lots of short trails with great views right at the capital trail.

Checked it out during high river conditions. Almost all the way under water and still so beautiful 😍 …

This park has free parking right at the entrance. It’s dog friendly so we brought our dogs. They’re supposed to be on leash but we did see one man with his dog off leash while there. At least the dog was well behaved. The river views are beautiful. Lots of hiking/walking on trails of this 11 acre island. There was quite a bit of litter of which some could be washed up there from the river. You can access the river from several spots. Many people fish there. I will definitely be back.

Started here on the Capital to Capital trail. The trail is well maintained, a great 50+ mile ride.

Nice spot to park for free since most areas to park are pay only.perfec5 to unload your bike and close to water and trails and the canal walk is about 10 min away.

Beautiful place to go and relax alone or with people. Lots of space for everyone but not a lot of parking. If they aren't working on pear st that day it is a gravel lot with some places to park.

Beautiful park and nice place to walk near shockoe bottom... Access to downtown and the city.

Why is this called park? Limited parking but water and nature at it's finest. There will be funky smelly water with dead fish walk pass that.

Love to go here. It's not crowded like other popular parks generally. You can step into an area where you feel miles away from the city with a beautiful little inlet by the river in the shade.
