Nice park to bring your dogs and also to bring your family if you have kids.

Small dog park adjacent to large dog park; both off leash. well maintained, great area. Excellent opportunity to get your little ones accustomed to being around other dogs. ( Pet Owners please pick up after your dogs for best results)

"This dog park has great shade, making it a comfortable spot to relax while watching your furry friends run and play. Unfortunately, the park can get a bit messy as some owners don’t clean up after their dogs or dispose of their trash properly. With a little more care from visitors, it could be an even better spot for pets and their people."

Great outdoor area for kids, adults and dogs! Multiple play structures for various kiddos. Nice enclosed space for off leash dogs. For an added bonus there’s a pond with nice trouts I saw people snagging lots of!

So I'm trying to comprehend a situation that happened on Halloween. With Jax being sick I'm trying to be especially diligent in taking him to the park to run and play catch before his surgery.   I've been taking my dog Jax to Howe Avenue park for YEARS. One of our favorite things to do is play fetch in the baseball field. There is a dog park there but as I'm sure most dog owners know, not all dogs are created equal. I always cleaned up after him, in fact I've never even seen him potty in the field. Because of halloween, there was almost NO ONE around. I thought it was the perfect night to visit the park.  We were having a great time tossing balls and running together until a police officer drove out into the middle of the field to approach me. He told me I was violating the rules of the park for A. Being in the field with my dog and B. Allowing him to run (to catch a ball) without me holding his leash the whole time. He took my license and after a bit he came back and told me he was going to give me a warning. I told him thank you and ask what his name and badge number was? He paused for a moment and said "sure, I'll write you a citation". I was confused and told him I didn't understand why he decided to cite me after asking his name. He had nothing to say to me about that. He had no explanation. I always ask officers their names in any situation. I've had literally no run-ins with the law (except for speeding) and I knew I was in the wrong then. But this time I was LITERALLY doing nothing wrong except for violating a rule I never even knew existed. This experience has me upset and disappointed that with all the drug use and drug selling going on in that park, he chose to confront me when all I was trying to do was have fun with my dog. I told the officer that I had been playing in that field for years and have never had anyone complain to me or warn me. I know he told me he was going to warn me but because I simply asked what his name was, he cited me out of spite.  I have no idea how much this ticket will cost but I plan to fight it. I just feel like this was unfair and unprofessional. Update : the ticket was $400!!!

Honestly kind of disappointing. It could be very nice if kept clean. Trash all over and the pond is pretty gross. Dog-friendliness Multiple people walking around with aggressive dogs. They all warned me that their dog was aggressive as they walked by. So strange.

Low traffic and low activity going on at this park. The dog park could use some updates. Seems like it's been forgotten about. There's no up keeping. I would return but it's not my favorite dog park. This park is huge and needs some huge improvements. Water fountains near dog park are broken.

To be really honest, I've lived in Sacramento for over 30 years, and Howe Park has been a "No Go," not the best part of town, so I'd never come here. But my wife had a doctor's appointment close, so I decided to check out the dog park I never knew it had. It's old and not well maintained. That said, i had a very nice time there. I ha e 2 large cane corsos that are very well socialized and well behaved. They had an absolutely wonderful time playing with 4 tiny little dogs. All the dogs we're very good and the people we're very nice. I'll surely be back when im in the area. But still, please be mindful of your surroundings. That area is a bit sketchy.

Really good place to bring your dog and let your dog socialize with other dogs. Most of the dog owners are really nice and friendly. Just a good place to meet up.

Needs maintenance ASAP! Park is full of Foxtails which can be very dangerous for dogs. This park needs a lot of maintenance done before it’s even safe.

Large dog area has no water, no poo bags and lots of poo on the ground. Excellent shade. Large grassy areas.

Nice dog park with fresh drinking water available. Has 2 sections, one for small dogs and another for larger breeds. Great place to take your dog.

Dog lover zone! So many friendly dogs and good owners here. My favorite dog park in Sacramento and all sizes and breeds come here. There's a lovely park to walk around as well on leash and so many squirrels

This park has a fenced area for dogs to run and play. Was not clearly marked from the parking lot though, and had to look for it in the park. Also I noticed that there was hardly any grass, and it was very muddy. Also this park is lovely and is home to many squirrels. My dog loves to chase squirrels, and was very distracted I all the squirrels running around.

A lot of space for your dog to run and engage with other dogs.

Very crowded every time I go. However, the extended park is great. Low water levels for ducks. Water is very green though. The off leash area always seems to have energetic big dogs. The other area for little dogs has some cute little dogs but territorial. This park is a good walk. Especially if you include the extended area that not everybody knows about. Pleasant

Easy parking and separate areas for large and small dogs. The fence is very low, maybe 42” tall. My Husky could effortlessly jump out, luckily he doesn’t know it. Lots of mud puddles and the water fountain is on the side of a fire hydrant and that area was filthy. I went there to let my dog run around off leash and socialize with other dogs. The park did that perfectly. There were some donated bags for picking up but I suggest bringing your own to be safe. Dog-friendliness Lots of room to walk on-leash too. Lots of squirrels may cause a distraction.

This is my favorite dog park or community. Great people and nice dogs. Enough room to play.

Wonderful addition to the whole Howe Community Park! Just 0.5 to 0.7 miles away from the sand playground and the ducknpond area. In addition to allowing dogs on leashes in the whole park, this small area is fenced and the dogs are allowed off leash. Neiboring the Tennis courts aea and parking. Beatiful, simple yet highly effecient and convenient. Ofcourse, I will not add any more details, they all covered on my review of the park itself and its duck ponds and sand playgrounds.
