We visited from out of town, and our two dogs were happy here. I sought this park out because it is not astroturf, which retains an awful urine smell. (The S Street dog park was pungent.) There is water and shade, and there were about 10 dogs to play with on a warm Tuesday afternoon. Other owners were at minimum moderately attentive to their dogs, so it was a relatively safe and pleasant place to spend an hour.

What the park lacks in beauty, it more than makes up for it by attracting all sorts of wonderful dogs and their people. A great spot to meet dogs and people!

It's a convenient location in the neighborhood, large area to run, has water, but gravel gets very dirty and has a lot of areas where the gravel is worn away leaving a gravel dust/dirt pit. Plan for a rinse or bath after a visit here. Often some people don't pick up after their dogs at the park too, not the cleanest or well maintained. Also, they close in the evenings, not sure what their concern is with this dumb security measure, night owls need play time too.

Shaw Dog Park is a fenced city park run by volunteers. It has become a collective back yard in an area where backyards are small or nonexistent. Some patrons drive from other neighborhoods to give Fido a chance to run and socialize. People are welcoming and love chatting about their dogs. The dogs tend to be well behaved and very friendly. Some of them even go around the park greeting each human or inviting them to join in a game of fetch. No kidding! The Park has a small fenced area for pups under 25 pounds that may not be ready to hang out with their larger friends just yet; and gets busy around noon and after 4 pm. It’s mostly frequented by adults of working age, but all are welcome. You can meet very interesting people there, sit on a bench under a tree and watch the parade of breeds (so many!) or dress your dog up (and yourself) for their annual Halloween Dog Custom Party and competition. A couple of issues that the volunteers are working with DC to fix: The water faucet leaks and a puddle forms at the bottom of the park when it rains or snows— dogs love it, humans not so much. It’s a nice place for both dogs and people alike to spend a couple of hours a day.

Great big dog park in the city. Lots of benches and tree boxes. Sometimes there's scuffles with the dogs but that's true if any park that gets busy. They do fun special events occasionally like Doggy costume party at Halloween.

A well maintained dog park with running water and benches. Usually has at least a dog or two any time of day, and can get very busy, while still providing plenty of space for your pooch to sniff around. Unfortunately, it is pea gravel, so Snuffles and Fido will get pretty gnarly if they roll around.

I enjoyed this park (and so did my dog). The door latch is a bit janky, but aside from that, it is a well maintained park for that morning puppy social.

Friendly folks who manage their dogs well is the best part of this park. There's water, and a bowl when I was there. The surface is a pretty fine gravel, soft packed, and I didn't see any poop. Bags were available. The usual double entry, minus 1 star for the surface, but I don't have much experience with city dog parks. I will go back during our family's visit. ¹

We have two small dogs and stayed in the small dog section. The humans were all very nice. Most of the dogs in the small section stayed with the owners and didn't play too much. We were also warned not to take them to the big dog area bc of a situation that happened to a puppy. He was side swiped from a pack of large dogs running, and this innocent accident broke the small pups neck, and he didn't survive. Just be safe and keep the small pups in the small dog area. Especially if they like to run with the big boys. Also, it is not recommended to have on nice shoes because the ground up powder from the gravel gets all over the place and can create lots of dust. Dog-friendliness This isn't the best place to take your dog for exercise. I would recommend taking them to one of the parks for a long walk. But all dogs love to run free, off the leash. So I would recommend this location if you can find parking outside.

Great place to bring your dog! Plenty of space from dogs to run around and the ground is a gravel/cut up rubber turf material. Plenty of water spouts and bowls for dogs to to drink. Composed of a large main area and a smaller side pen if you're concerned about smaller puppies. Definitely prefer this location to the S street dog park.
